New Year. New Goal. 

Most of us make New Year's resolutions. As you are likely to know, the statistics indicate the majority of us (70-75% ) do not follow through. I am certainly guilty. This year, I am challenging myself and the Lead One Community to make a new one. Let’s be intentional this year on growing personally. Let’s put a plan in place to improve in certain areas of our leadership. What new knowledge should be acquired? What skills need to be improved? What habits need to be formed or, in some cases, broken? Planting daily seeds. 

What makes a good day? What happened that day to make you feel good? Maybe it was an event you planned, and everything worked out. Or it could have been your presentation, and you " killed" it. Something took place for you to say, “This was a good day.“ Author William A. Ward once said, “Judge each day not by the harvest you reap but by the seeds you plant." Why should I join you? 

That is a question for every leader who is building a team. As a leader, you must have an answer to this question. It may never be asked directly. I have learned that people join people and people leave people. You may have a great company and brand; however, at the end of the day, they are joining YOU. Comparison is the thief of joy. 

The quote, "Comparison is the thief of joy," is from Eleanor Roosevelt. When I read this many years ago, it really hit home. Like most of you, I consider myself somewhat competitive. I like to win just like the next person. As a result, I naturally tended to compare myself or my company to others. In business, I was part of a large distribution network with over 100+ organizations like mine from all over the country. The parent company would publish monthly standings based on sales. What is a leader to do?

If you are leading, nothing is more rewarding than guiding someone to grow and become all they can be. It doesn't matter if you lead a large company, a department, or a small group of team members.
