As a leader you know having your people engaged is critical toward achieving your goals. And yet, for many leaders it is one of their biggest challenges. The fact is, leading effectively is almost impossible without employee engagement. You cannot lead a board, committee, an individual or a team if they are not engaged.

We must strive to find the balance between PURPOSE-PASSION-PROCESS. Here’s something for you to remember when you’re building engagement in your organization.

  • If you have a purpose and are passionate about what you do, but lack a process, you will waste people’s time
  • If you are passionate and have a process but you lack a sense of purpose, you will be like a flare that burns brightly for a short period of time and then flames out.
  • If you have a sense of purpose and process but you lack passion, you will have a difficult time leading.

Leadership author Warren Bennis said, “Good leaders make people feel that they’re at the very heart of things, not at the periphery. Everyone feels that he or she makes a difference to the success of the organization, and when that happens, people feel centered and that gives their work meaning.”
