There are three types of leaders: those who make it happen, those who watch it happen, and those who scratch their heads, stare out the window, and wonder, “ What Happened?”

Hopefully, we are leaders who make it happen. As a reminder, we must engage with our people often. I am not referring to anything that resembles micro-managing. However, I recommend you keep your finger on the pulse of the needs and wants of your people.

That is where you will find the opportunities to lead them. As you may know, a constant awareness of what needs to do, and the energy to make it happen is essential for every leader.

Remember, you cannot maintain or build a healthy culture if you are not connected. Here are some questions to ponder:

  • Do you have other leaders on your team leading from their rear ends? If so, turn them around before it’s too late.
  • Are you in the trenches enough—in particular with your top performers?
  • Are you intentional with each day to be the catalyst to make stuff happen through others?

Leadership requires COURAGE—are you putting yourself on the line, taking the risk, and seizing every opportunity to lead. Today there may be an opportunity to serve and lead your team members to higher ground.
