Most of us are familiar with boxing and the concept of the “Main Event.” Before the big fight, there are several preliminary bouts—the undercard. Fans watch these closely, anticipating the main event.

In business and leadership, there’s always a Main Event too. Remember the phrase: “The main thing is the main thing.” This is the priority that deserves 100% of our focus. We must be fully committed and prepared to execute for success.

Here’s a twist on this idea for teams that meet regularly for their huddle—whether daily or weekly. Typically, these meetings cover progress, numbers, and project updates. Instead, try this: ask each team member, including the leader, “What is your Main Event this week?”

Everyone reports their priority. This not only aligns the team but also improves communication—the right hand knows what the left hand is doing. At each subsequent huddle, team members provide a brief progress update on their previous Main Event.

A word of caution: stay focused. Avoid turning this into a rundown of every task. The goal is to identify one main thing—an action, activity, meeting, or appointment—that requires your absolute best effort.

I encourage you to give this a try at your next huddle. Go all in on the Main Event and watch the focus and alignment it brings to your team.
