With Gratitude

Hello Lead One community. I would like to express my best wishes to you and your loved ones for a Happy Thanksgiving. I believe it is our human nature to think about what we don’t have or what we lack in our lives. In addition, we may find ourselves in comparison mode. I’m reminded of Eleanor Roosevelt's famous quote, “Comparison is the thief of joy.” If you think about this quote, there is a lot to unpack. When you focus on what you don’t have, you are robbing yourself of gratitude for what you do have and enjoy. Yes, it is true plenty is going on globally and within our country to have concerns. What It’s Like to Be on the Other Side of You

As we’ve learned, self-awareness is a core leadership competency and a critical part of developing emotional intelligence. Yet many leaders believe they’re more self-aware than they truly are. The Expectations Every Leader Should Revisit

As we near the end of the year, many of us reflect on the last 12 months. We ask ourselves, “What did I do well?” “What do I need to change in the coming year?” “How can I grow?” But do we ever stop and ask, “Am I meeting my people’s expectations?” Maybe it’s time we do. In my experience, the following is a good list of expectations your people have for you, their leader: To communicate openly, honestly, and frequently To be predictable and consistent To have a plan for their growth To exhibit self-confidence balanced with humility To encourage them To challenge them To let them know how they are doing To always recognize their accomplishments To be decisive and fair To [...]

Business Planning Made Easier

Many business and corporate planning processes remain overly complex, time-consuming, and often ineffective. Every business owner and CEO needs a business plan, typically one that includes a Vision, Mission Statement, Objectives, Strategies, and Action Plans. The most important reason for having a business plan is to clarify your thinking. It also serves as a powerful communication tool that outlines: WHERE you, as the leader, want to take the organization (Vision) WHY you want to go there (Mission Statement) HOW you plan to get there (Strategies and Action Plans) WHAT success will look like (Key Outcomes) These are the fundamental components of an effective business plan. However, it’s important to avoid overcomplicating the process. A business plan shouldn’t require months of meetings, endless documents, spreadsheets, flowcharts, or expensive consultants. In fact, [...]
