As leaders, we are always being observed. You’ve likely heard the saying, “Your actions speak so loudly, I can’t hear a word you’re saying.” That’s leadership in a nutshell. We are constantly in *“Be” mode.
Our teams experience us this way:
-
He’s being rude and short again.
-
She’s being distant again.
-
He’s being difficult again.
-
She’s being disinterested again.
You get the idea—people experience us not just by what we do but by how we show up. We are always being something—positive or negative. The choice is ours.
Here are my top five Positive “B’s”:
-
Always BE Present: Fully show up—make others feel seen, heard, and valued.
-
Always BE Consistent: Be predictable in your values and behavior. Trust grows here.
-
Always BE Listening: With your ears, eyes, and heart. Listen for their stories, struggles, and wins.
-
Always BE Clear: Especially when setting expectations or leading change. Clarity builds confidence.
-
Always BE Encouraging: Leaders are ambassadors of hope. Offer confidence and support generously.
These may sound simple—and they are—but living them out requires intention.
