Of course, we all want a better tomorrow. As leaders, we hold responsibility for shaping the future—what needs to change, how we grow, and how we help others grow. I’ve learned that our capacity to lead is directly tied to our capacity to grow. Organizational success is inextricably linked to personal development.

Not long ago, I was introduced to a CEO whose friend is one of my clients. That client has experienced significant growth, opening several new retail locations. The CEO wanted the same—more locations, more expansion. When I asked him what his ultimate goal was, his answer was simple: “to get bigger.”

I surprised him by saying I wasn’t sure I was the right person to help. He was puzzled, especially given his friend’s success. I explained that the real work I had done with his friend was not just about scaling the business—it was about growth at the leadership level. We focused on strengthening critical leadership competencies, not only for the CEO but also for his top team. We identified specific areas for development, and from that growth came the expansion he desired.

I told him, ‘You must get better first; then bigger things will follow.’

This story illustrates a key truth about making tomorrow better: it begins with personal growth and development. As a leader, you set the example. You challenge your team to grow in areas that matter most, you create an environment that fosters development, and you build a culture of growth. When you do, growth becomes contagious.

Here’s to a better tomorrow—one built on becoming better first.
