Most leaders display their company’s mission statement, sometimes even publicly. I firmly believe every business should have a clearly defined mission: its purpose. That statement should reflect why the business exists and who it serves—employees, customers, clients, and beyond.
But what about you? Do you have a personal purpose statement? What is your why? Each day we wake up with the privilege and opportunity to impact someone’s life. In my view, our purpose should always be rooted in serving others.
As leaders, devoting our lives to a strong purpose brings deep fulfillment. There’s no greater calling than knowing you’ve made a difference in someone else’s life. Purpose is more than a goal—it’s a cause. It pulls us forward.
One quote that has always stayed with me comes from George Washington Carver: “No individual has any right to come into the world and go out of it without leaving behind him/her distinct and legitimate reasons for having passed through it.”
This quote inspired much of what I wrote in my book, Make Today Your Masterpiece. When your purpose is clear and strong, it fuels your motivation and lifts your spirit.
Living out your purpose means others benefit—whether from your time, wisdom, resources, or guidance. And you benefit, too, from the deeply satisfying knowledge that you’ve made a meaningful difference.
So, what will you do today to live your purpose?
